    FAO has acted swiftly to avert the impact of the floods that beset farmers in Kirehe district. The emergency project will see agricultural inputs such as certified seeds and fertilizers distributed to farmers to recommence their crop production, and rehabilitate the irrigation infrastructures destroyed by the sediments depositions in the lowlands. Support to Rwanda’s e-Commerce will see the industry grow for the benefit of smallholder farmers and all those in the agribusiness value chain. Particularly, our efforts channeled through the new project launched, will ensure farmers become more competitive on local and foreign markets using ICTs.

    FAO-Rwanda's first newsletter of 2016 covers updates and achievements from January through June. The publication includes stories about FAO-Rwanda's work to mainstream gender in its projects, the collaboration of diverse partners on Forest and Landscape Restoration, the economic and nutritional successes of beneficiaries engaged in poultry production, and more. This newsletter is a tool for translating the technical work of the office into meaningful and engaging stories that capture the impact of projects. It also aims to be a source of consistent communication and inspiration for stakeholders, partners, and interested community members.

    In the newsletter we take you through major activities and success stories from the people supported by FAO working with partners, such as providing solutions to water challenges, empowering the farmers with the mobile application to fight fall armyworm, and accessing digital advisory services. This year FAO emphasized conservation of biodiversity to be able to sustain agriculture for future generations. World Food Day was another event to raise awareness of healthy eating habits while encouraging produce healthy and nutritious foods.

    FAO Strategy on Climate Change 2022–2031 2022
    The FAO Strategy on Climate Change 2022–2031 was endorsed by FAO Council in June 2022. This new strategy replaces the previous strategy from 2017 to better FAO's climate action with the Strategic Framework 2022-2031, and other FAO strategies that have been developed since then. The Strategy was elaborated following an inclusive process of consultation with FAO Members, FAO staff from headquarters and decentralized offices, as well as external partners. It articulates FAO's vision for agrifood systems by 2050, around three main pillars of action: at global and regional level, at country level, and at local level. The Strategy also encourages key guiding principles for action, such as science and innovation, inclusiveness, partnerships, and access to finance.

    Between 2 and 17 January 2024, following a request by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MoA&F), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in close cooperation with the Food Security Technical Secretariat (FSTS) and the State Ministries of Agriculture, carried out its annual Crop and Food Supply Assessment Mission (CFSAM) to estimate the 2023 crop production and assess the food supply situation throughout the 18 states of the country. The report's recommendations are to provide immediate response to the needs of the population most affected by acute food insecurity as well as to support the recovery of the agriculture sector, increasing food production and farmers’ incomes, and enhancing efficiency along the value chain to reduce production costs.
