No results found. The Global Forest Observations Initiative (GFOI) is an informal partnership designed to facilitate coordination among international partners and developing countries that seek to improve their capacity in National Forest Monitoring Systems and associated emissions measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) procedures. The GFOI Office is responsible for the overall coordination and administration of GFOI and, since late 2015, has been based at FAO headquarters in Rome. The aim of the current project was to provide secretariat services and day to day oversight of the broader GFOI partnership on behalf of its members, components and activities. The project would function as a focal point for the Initiative, facilitate its overall operations and ultimately help its partners to deliver coordinated support on forest monitoring and MRV in a targeted, efficient and effective manner. -
Brochure, flyer, fact-sheetBrochureABC-Map 2023
Also available in:
ABC-Map was designed with the specific objective of holistically assessing the environmental impacts of national policies, plans and investments in the agriculture, forestry and other land use (AFOLU) sector through Google Earth-based satellite imagery. ABC-Map helps to develop synergies and trade-offs between climate, biodiversity and land restoration actions. The adaptation section helps to understand exposure to climate change risks and to assess climate change over time in a given area. The biodiversity section covers a series of indicators that are intended to complement each other and provide a more comprehensive view of pressures and impacts on biodiversity. The carbon section aims to account for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the AFOLU sector and work towards their reduction. The overall objective of this flyer is to inform readers (i) what ABC-Map is, (ii) it's structure, and (iii) ABC-Map's partners.

Book (stand-alone)Technical bookDare to Understand and Measure (DaTUM). A literature review of monitoring and evaluation (M&E) frameworks for Climate-Smart Agriculture. 2019
Also available in:
No results found. The main objective of this report is to review the monitoring and evaluation (M&E) frameworks, tools and guidance documents that are available for climate-smart agriculture (CSA), and in particular for objective (“pillar”) two on adaptation and resilience. The report is a literature review and does not propose a new methodology. It is not an exhaustive list, but summarises the main M&E frameworks. This report represents the first step towards the development of operational guidelines for the design and implementation of national M&E frameworks for CSA, to be developed during the first quarter of 2019. The envisioned operational guidelines will address the core constraints and needs of Member States on both the design and implementation of an M&E system that can simultaneously address CSA and sector reporting requirements for the 2030 Agenda climate instruments. These guidelines will address the principal need expressed by Member States that M&E systems and indicators should be simple and not onerous. The intended users are practitioners designing CSA projects at country level and policy-makers coordinating national-sector monitoring and reporting efforts on climate change under the following three global agreements: the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Paris Agreement of 2015. -
Book (series)Manual / guideGood practices for the meat industry 2004In recent years, public concern about the safety of foods of animal origin has heightened due to problems that have arisen with bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), as well as with outbreaks of food-borne bacterial infections, and food contamination with toxic agents (e.g. dioxin). These problems have serious implications for national food safety, the development of the animal products industry and for international trade in livestock products. The purpose of this manual on Good pract ices for the meat industry is to provide updated comprehensive information and practical guidelines for the implementation of the new Code of hygienic practice for meat, when adopted by the Codex Alimentarius Commission. The publication is intended to guide managers of abattoirs and the meat industry. It will also be of value to veterinarians engaged in meat inspection, with their supervisory roles in meat hygiene. The manual is published in detachable modules and also serves as a trai ning resource.
