    The 5th issue of the Biosafety Newsletter contains information about key meetings and activities that took place from December 2019 through to August 2020 in the National Biosafety Project (Implementation of the National Biosafety Framework in Accordance with the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety). The coverage of the 5th issue is dedicated to inform the audience about the progress made in relation to training of relevant stakeholders on monitoring and inspection of Living Modified Organisms (LMOs) and training on uploading information and maintenance of the Sri Lanka Biosafety Clearing House (BCH) website. The newsletter also mentions about biosafety awareness to the Ministry of Environment, Central Environmental Authority and undergraduates from the University of Colombo and University of Visual Arts. Further, it covers the 3rd Project steering committee meeting, meeting on biosafety awareness material and the six radio programs with experts from different areas on biosafety that were broadcasted live through the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation. The newsletter also includes synopses about biosafety in relation to labelling of LMOs, bioweapons, and accreditation of LMO testing laboratories in Sri Lanka and a cartoon depicting the current regulatory process of LMOs in the country.     В докладе Состояние мирового рыболовства и аквакультуры – 2018 особое внимание уделено роли сектора в претворении в жизнь Повестки дня в области устойчивого развития на период до 2030 года и достижении Целей в области устойчивого развития, а также вопросу об измерении прогресса на пути достижения этих целей. Авторы рассматривают особую роль рыболовства во внутренних водах и маломасштабного рыболовства, подчеркивают значение правомерного руководства в плане справедливого и инклюзивного развития. Как и прежние выпуски доклада, настоящую публикацию открывает основанный на наиболее актуальных данных официальной статистики анализ глобальных тенденций в части производства продукции рыболовства и аквакультуры, запасов, переработки и использования рыбы, торговли и потребления. Далее рассматривается текущее состояние мирового рыболовного флота, анализируется положение работников отрасли, особое внимание уделяется проблематике управления рыболовством. Во второй‑четвертой частях затрагивается широкий круг тем: водное биоразнообразие, экосистемный подход к рыболовству и аквакультуре, воздействие изменения климата и соответствующие меры реагирования, вклад сектора в обеспечение продовольственной безопасности и питания, вопросы международной торговли, защиты потребителей и обеспечения устойчивости производственно-сбытовых цепочек. Кроме того, авторы уделяют внимание последним событиям в мировой борьбе с незаконным, несообщаемым и нерегулируемым рыбным промыслом, отдельным опасениям, связанным с загрязнением мирового океана, и предпринимаемым усилиям по повышению качества статистических данных в области рыболовства и аквакультуры. В заключение приводится прогноз развития сектора на период до 2030 года. Как и прежде, публикация доклада Состояние мирового рыболовства и аквакультуры преследует цель предоставить широкому кругу читателей – директивным органам, управленцам, ученым, заинтересованным сторонам и всем, кто тем или иным образом связан с рыболовством и аквакультурой – объективную, достоверную и актуальную информацию.

    The FAOSTAT emissions database is composed of several data domains covering the categories of the IPCC Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector of the national GHG inventory. Energy use in agriculture is additionally included as relevant to emissions from agriculture as an economic production sector under the ISIC A statistical classification, though recognizing that, in terms of IPCC, they are instead part of the Energy sector of the national GHG inventory. FAO emissions estimates are available over the period 1961–2018 for agriculture production processes from crop and livestock activities. Land use emissions and removals are generally available only for the period 1990–2019. This analytical brief focuses on overall trends over the period 2000–2018.

    FAO Strategy on Climate Change 2022–2031 2022
    The FAO Strategy on Climate Change 2022–2031 was endorsed by FAO Council in June 2022. This new strategy replaces the previous strategy from 2017 to better FAO's climate action with the Strategic Framework 2022-2031, and other FAO strategies that have been developed since then. The Strategy was elaborated following an inclusive process of consultation with FAO Members, FAO staff from headquarters and decentralized offices, as well as external partners. It articulates FAO's vision for agrifood systems by 2050, around three main pillars of action: at global and regional level, at country level, and at local level. The Strategy also encourages key guiding principles for action, such as science and innovation, inclusiveness, partnerships, and access to finance.
