Fishing has always been the backbone of the people of Sandy Point, as it is a source of affordable and accessible food for families. Today fisherfolk supply fish not only to the Sandy Point community, but nearby communities as well. No results found.Newcastle is a relatively small community located in Nevis. The area is known for its beaches and is adjacent to the largest coral reef system and sea grass bed in Saint Kitts & Nevis. The fishers of Newcastle have a big reputation for the colourful species of fish caught such as parrot fish. Most of the fishers in the area are part-time fishers. However, due to their reputation, communities all around Nevis race to the Newcastle Bay landing site on the weekend to purchase fish from the fisherfolk. The Newcastle Bay fishing community is made up of: 20+ fishers; 10 fishing vessels; The Newcastle Bay Foundation, the main fisherfolk organisation and one of the more active groups in the community. -

No results found.This report presents the main findings and recommendations from a vulnerability and capacity assessment (VCA) of coastal and fishing communities in Grenada. The overall goal of the assessment was to improve understanding of local climate change impacts and vulnerabilities for effective adaptation in the fisheries sector. It utilised three tools: community mapping, surveys and impact and capacity matrix for data collection, and engaged a wide range of stakeholders to ensure a participatory process.
