No results found.This issue focuses on nutrient requirements and reflects the Food Policy and Nutrition Division's involvement in a variety of applications of scientific knowledge. Concepts of nutrient requirements and the processes by which they have evolved are described. The need for thoughtful applications of nutrition information is also emphasized. Articles on trace elements and protein quality provide two illustrations of recent work by FAO in establishing nutrient requirements. The strategy to alleviate vitamin A deficiencies by the promotion of vitamin A-rich crops and an assessment of China's nutrition situation demonstrate applications of nutrient requirements in the broad context of development. In addition, this issue contains important information regarding the recent FAO/ WHO Conference on Food Standards, Chemicals in Food and Food Trade as well as a discussion on the control of radionuclide contamination of food.
