Book (series)Consequences of biomanipulation for fish and fisheries 2001
Also available in:
No results found. The main goal of biomanipulation by fish reduction is not a change in the fish community but a change in the aquatic ecosystem. Fish reduction is a method to push the system in another state, usually a shift from algae domination to macrophyte domination. Intensive fish removal is done by one of the following methods: seining (the Netherlands, Germany, UK), trawling (Sweden, Finland), use of rotenone (Norway, USA, Poland) and stocking of piscivorous fish (USA, Germany). If circumstances allow it (reservoir, ponds) draining is combined with seining (the Netherlands, UK, Poland). The intensity and duration of fishing differs per case, but is quite important for the way the system changes. Fishing may be combined with stocking of predatory fish, mainly pike and pikeperch (or walleye)...... -

No results found. The European Inland Fisheries Advisory Commission (EIFAC) organized a Workshop on methodology for determination of nutrient requirements in fish from 29 June to 1 July 1993 in Eichenau, Germany. There were nine consecutive technical sessions during which the various topics were introduced and discussed. These topics referred to energy, proteins and amino acids, digestion and utilization of protein and energy, lipids and essential fatty acids, carbohydrates, minerals and trace elements, vitami ns, feed additives, and application of nutrient requirement data. A series of recommendations were made concerning each of these main topics and are presented in the report together with the abstracts of the papers and posters presented during the Workshop. -

The Symposium on Water for Sustainable Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture was held in Praia do Carvoeiro, Portugal, from 23-26 June 1998, in concomitance with the Twentieth Session of the European Inland Fisheries Advisory Commission (EIFAC). Sixty eight participants from 23 countries attended the symposium; 27 papers and 6 posters were presented. The Symposium concluded that those in charge of fisheries and aquaculture development should seek collaboration with other agencies and sectors of socie ty in order to improve coordination of water resource management and to ensure that the needs of inland fisheries and aquaculture are adequately represented in management plans. An urgent requirement would be an economic and social evaluation of inland fisheries, aquaculture production, fishing communities, fish populations and aquatic environments in general.
