No results found.The key descriptors for forage grasses consist of an initial minimum set of characterization and evaluation descriptors for some species of the family Poaceae. Grasses belong to the plant family Poaceae and many of the important forage grass genera have similar morphology, making it possible to suggest a common set of descriptors that can be used for describing diversity within multiple species. Despite similarities, grasses show diversity in morphology, productivity, feed quality and their response to drought and cold, even within the same species. These general forage grass descriptors are limited to tropical species with specific examples from Andropogon gayanus, Bothriochloa pertusa, Cenchrus ciliaris, Cenchrus clandestinus, Cenchrus purpureus, Chloris gayana, Cynodon dactylon, Cynodon nlemfuensis, Digitaria eriantha, Megathrysus maximus, Melinis minutiflora, Panicum coloratum, Paspalum dilatatum, Paspalum plicatulum, Setaria sphacelata, Sorghum x almum, Tripsacum laxum, Urochloa brizantha, Urochloa decumbens and Urochloa ruziziensis. These are all grasses that are already being adopted by smallholder farmers worldwide. -

Decne. also known locally as son tra or H’mong apple (Vietnam), dou-yi (China), pin-sein (Myanmar), Assam apple/wild apple (India), belongs to the family Rosaceae. D. indica is an important multi-purpose fruit tree species in agroforestry systems in the highlands. Its fruit is appreciated for its nutrient and vitamin C content as well as antioxidant properties. It also contains substances with high biological activity, which are used as herbal medicine. Fruits are often processed into products such as juice, wine, vinegar, syrup, jam, and preserved by drying. The strategic set of data standards is designed to facilitate access to and utilization of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture information. Together with passport information, descriptors are critical to the effective sharing of characterization and evaluation data and to the efficient use of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture. -

No results found.The ‘List of descriptors for Canarium ovatum Engl.' consists of a set of characterization and evaluation descriptors which includes a minimum list of highly discriminating descriptors for this species. This strategic set aims at facilitating access to and utilization of pili nut. It does not exclude the addition of other descriptors if needed.The key set of access and utilization descriptors was defined through an online survey, in which 26 experts from 14 different organizations/universities from three countries participated. Survey results were subsequently validated in consultation with a Core Advisory Group.Canarium ovatum, also known as Philippine nut and pili nut, is a dioecious tree species belonging to the Burseraceae family. It is an important endemic tree in the Philippines and the centre of diversity is in Bicol, Leyte and Samar Islands.
