Synopsis (short abstract) This factsheet shares the key aspects and the materialised deliveries of the EU-STREIT Programme in Papua New Guinea, that is being implemented under the leadership of FAO, to bring about transformative, institutional changes in the cocoa agri-business value chain in the country. Developed to share the gained knowledge with policymakers and scientific institutions, this publication focuses on the cocoa value chain, summarises the general context and the challenges that were prevalent before the commencement of programme implementations, the approach taken by the Organisation to address the recognised issues on concerns, the conducted activities at different layers, from farmers to policy levels, and the planned intervention in the new future.

    This factsheet exolians the key aspects and the achieved results of the EU Fubded UN Joint STREIT Programme in Papua New Guinea, that is being implemented under the leadership of FAO, to bring about transformative, institutional changes in the cocoa agri-business value chain in the country. Developed to share the obtained knowledge, leraned lessons and best practices with policymakers and scientific institutions, this publication focuses on the vanilla value chain, summarises the general context and the challenges that were prevalent before the commencement of programme implementations, the approach taken by the Organisation to address these recognised issues on concerns, the conducted activities at different layers, from farmers to policy levels, and the running interventions in the target areas.

    This publication briefs the basic elements, aspects and the adopted approach of the FAO-led EU-funded STREIT Programme in Papua New Guinea in developing sustainably cocoa value chain in the Greater Sepik Region. Cocoa, Vanilla and Fisheries are the three target value chains of this Programme. The publication presents how the multistakeholder partnership approach adopted by the Programme to engage different sectors of society and describes the basic domains of support provided by the programme. It also, display the causal sequence (Theory of Change) of steps envisaged by the Programme in order to trigger a transformative change for materialising sustainable development in the cocoa value chain in the area.
