South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC) for sustainable agriculture in Fergana Valley. Concept note and provisional agenda
Regional inception workshop, 15-16 December 2025
    2025
    Also available in:

The Fergana Valley, shared by Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, is Central Asia’s most fertile agricultural area, producing cotton, wheat, maize, fruits, vegetables, and raw silk. Its agricultural productivity, however, faces mounting challenges from climate change, environmental degradation, and competition over land and water resources. These pressures threaten food security, rural livelihoods, and regional stability. In response, the project promotes Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) — an integrated approach that enhances farm productivity and profitability, strengthens resilience to climate impacts, and reduces greenhouse gas emissions. By introducing innovative agricultural technologies, improving soil and water conservation, and fostering knowledge exchange, the initiative will strengthen the capacities of smallholder farmers, cooperatives, and national experts. Through close collaboration with government institutions, research bodies, and farming organizations, the project will support sustainable crop diversification, value chain development, and climate-resilient agricultural systems that ensure long-term prosperity for communities across the valley.
