Brochure, flyer, fact-sheetPeace and Food Security Supplement by FAO
Le Monde diplomatique. I - May 2016
2016Also available in:
Civil conflict, war, and internal crises create food insecurity and loss of livelihoods for local communities. FAO's work to counteract the adverse effects of conflict on food security is summarized in this supplement published for Le Monde diplomatique (May, 2016). FAO’s mission on the ground includes both technical and legal aspects as well as collecting evidence and producing studies and knowledge. Its aim is to mobilize international aid and bring resources together to combat national and international emergencies affecting food security. José Graziano Da Silva, the Director-General of FAO, has contributed a section on how the international humanitarian community can assist persons and communities affected by conflict to save and reconstruct their livelihoods and to improve food security. Examples of FAO’s work in Syria and Sierra Leone are used to illustrate the role that aid in support of food security plays in mitigating and even preventing conflict.
