    A menudo el trabajo que realizan las mujeres en su hogar no es valorado y se confunde con el realizado en la explotacin agrcola. De esta manera, se subestima el aporte que hacen en la agricultura y para la seguridad alimentaria de la familia. Las encuestas realizadas en el sector rural, de los pases en vas de desarrollo, difcilmente otorgan datos que indiquen cuntas explotaciones estn dirigidas por mujeres o cuentan con una jefa de familia. Esta ausencia demuestra la poca preocupac in por relevar dicha informacin, debido entre otros factores a que su trabajo no es reconocido porque por lo general permanece en el sector informal de la economa. Tampoco son valorados los tiempos que dedican al trabajo productivo y reproductivo, sean stos remunerados o no. El estudio que presentamos en esta ocasin denominado Situacin de las mujeres rurales en Peru permite tener una mirada hacia la situacin actual de la mujer rural de dicho pas, e intenta proyectar su futur o. La Organizacin para la Alimentacin y la Agricultura de las Naciones Unidas (FAO) pone esta informacin a disposicin de usuarios y usuarias con el objeto de que, al momento de planificar actividades para ser desarrolladas en el sector agropecuario, sean tomados en cuenta los datos analticos presentados, de modo que puedan servir de base en polticas y proyectos de intervencin destinados a las reas rurales. La FAO est realizando estudios similares en diferentes pases de Amrica Lat ina y el Caribe, con el fin de tener fuentes comparativas en cifras en relacin con la temtica de la mujer rural en el nivel regional. Estos estudios abordan, entre otros, temas tales como la migracin y el empleo rural no agrcola, considerados emergentes y prioritarios en dicha regin.

    The 2023 edition of the Regional Overview of Food Security and Nutrition in Latin America and the Caribbean presents an update of the data and trends in food security and nutrition in recent years. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the climate crisis and the conflict in Ukraine, as well as the economic slowdown, rising food inflation and income inequality have had an impact on regional figures. The most recent data shows that, between 2021 and 2022, progress was made in reducing hunger and food insecurity in Latin America and the Caribbean. However, the progress achieved is far from the targets established to meet SDG 2 of ending hunger. In addition, one in five people in the region cannot access a healthy diet and malnutrition in all its forms, including child stunting, micronutrient deficiencies and obesity continue to be a major challenge.

    The Protocol of 8-9 July 1946 relative to the dissolution of the International Institute of Agriculture, transferred the functions and assets of the said Institute to FAO. Of these assets, the Library is unquestionably the most outstanding and is a lasting record of the Institute's work and its achievement in the field of agriculture. This catalogue will undoubtedly contribute towards a better knowledge of this international Library.
