    FAO China ECTAD Highlights in December 2019: 1)The FAO-China South-South Cooperation (SSC) Project on Transboundary Animal Disease Control in the Greater Mekong Sub-Region Annual Coordination Meeting of the Project Steering Committee (PSC) was held in Kunming, Yunnan Province from 10 to 11 December 2019. The meeting was co-organized by FAO Emergency Centre for Transboundary Animal Diseases (ECTAD) Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (RAP) and the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Bureau of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA) of China. Approximately 44 representatives attended the meeting; 2)The back-to-back 5th Multilateral Cross-Border Meeting in the Upper Mekong Sub-region to Strengthen Collaboration of Transboundary Animal Disease Control among China, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Viet Nam, Cambodia was held in Kunming, Yunnan Province from 11 to 12 December 2019. Aside from the participants of the Annual Coordination Meeting of PSC, representatives from the Government of Viet Nam and World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), and private sectors participated in the Meeting.

    FAO China ECTAD attendance at the technical meeting to discuss echinococcosis control and prevention - The technical meeting to discuss echinococcosis control and prevention was hosted by the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (USCDC) and Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC) on 11 May 2018 in Beijing. Around ten participants from USCDC, China CDC, World Health Organization (WHO) and FAO participated in the meeting. Ms Yu Qi attended the meeting on behalf of the FAO China Emergency Center for Transboundary Animal Diseases (ECTAD) Office. FAO China ECTAD attendance at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Cooperation Conference on Joint Prevention and Control of Transboundary Animal Diseases - The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Cooperation Conference on Joint Prevention and Control of Transboundary Animal Diseases was held in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province from 12-13 May 2018. The conference was co-hosted by the General Administration of Customs, China (GACC), Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA), and Shaanxi Provincial Government. More than 150 representatives from SCO member countries, observing countries, international organizations, and embassies in China attended the conference. FAO gathers partners to review the zoonotic influenza situation in China - FAO China ECTAD Office organized the meeting of the United Nations Theme Group on Agriculture (UNTG-AG) – sub working group on Diseases at the Human-Animal-Environment interface on 17 May 2018 in Beijing to review the zoonotic influenza situation in China. Under the One Health concept, a regular communication mechanism was established for the purpose of strengthening collaboration of zoonotic disease prevention and control among human health and animal health sectors. 13 participants from China CDC, China Animal Disease Control Center (CADC), FAO, WHO and USCDC participated in the meeting.

    FAO China ECTAD Highlights in November 2018: The FAO China Emergency Center for Transboundary Animal Diseases (ECTAD) Office organized the Chinese trainers of China Field Epidemiology Training Program for Veterinarians (CFETPV) to participate in the 15th International Symposium of Veterinary Epidemiology and Economics (ISVEE 15) in Chiang Mai, Thailand from 12-16 November 2018. ISVEE 15 was a global forum for interdisciplinary collaboration and communication among graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, practitioners, junior and senior researchers, as well as policymakers, health, veterinary public health, social science, and animal health economic professionals, for learning and sharing with a vision of building a better life tomorrow for veterinary epidemiology at the local, regional, and international levels. FAO Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO), Dr Juan Lubroth was invited to visit the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA) of China on 16 November 2018. During his visit, Dr Lubroth met with Mr Yu Kangzhen, Vice Minister of MARA, Mr Zhang Zhongqiu, Chief Veterinary Officer of China, Mr Feng Zhongwu, Deputy Director-General, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Bureau, MARA and other senior officers of MARA. The 4th Multilateral Cross-Border Meeting in the Upper Mekong Sub-region to Strengthen Collaboration of Transboundary Animal Disease Control among China, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Viet Nam was held in Beijing, China from 22-24 November 2018. The meeting was co-organized by FAO China Emergency Center for Transboundary Animal Diseases (ECTAD) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA) of China.
