2021In the framework of World Soil Day 2020, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS), and the Global Soil Partnership (GSP) launched a children's book contest on Soil Biodiversity with the motto "Keep soil alive, protect soil biodiversity". The book contest on soil biodiversity has given visibility to the importance of soil organisms and raised awareness on the urgency of protecting soil biodiversity. The soil biodiversity book competition highlights the importance of soil organisms and raises awareness of the urgent need to protect soil biodiversity among a young audience (children aged 6-11 years). This collection of 10 stories includes the best entries received from a total of 80 books spanning over 60 countries. -

No results found.The Forest Kids biodiversity video game was launched by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, created with the support of the European Space Agency (ESA) and Avoin Ry and funded by the European Union. Forest Kids guides children on an expedition around the world and invites the virtual travellers to explore four types of forest – boreal, tropical, temperate and arid – while spotting flora and fauna, matching pairs of animals within their biomes and sorting non-wood forest products as they go. It is an educational video game in six languages to engage new generations and raise awareness of the importance of trees and forests to life on Earth. Forest Kids features Paxi, an earth-loving alien who is the official mascot of ESA. The game is accessible via the app Forest Kids on both Android and iOS platforms and online at https://www.fao.org/forest-resources-assessment/ForestKids.The Forest Kids colouring booklet was created to further engage children in discovering forests and biodiversity by personalizing the forests, flora and fauna featured in the video game, as well as to learn age-accessible facts about the four featured biomes (Arid, Boreal, Temperate and Tropical). In the "Story of a t-shirt", the food hero and sustainable fashion activist, Matteo Ward, brings young people on a journey into the world of clothing and textiles, many of which originate in fields and pastures. The book introduces the topic of sustainable fashion and invites young children to reflect on the importance of taking care of the natural resources needed to produce the clothes we wear.
