The Symposium on Water for Sustainable Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture was held in Praia do Carvoeiro, Portugal, from 23-26 June 1998, in concomitance with the Twentieth Session of the European Inland Fisheries Advisory Commission (EIFAC). Sixty eight participants from 23 countries attended the symposium; 27 papers and 6 posters were presented. The Symposium concluded that those in charge of fisheries and aquaculture development should seek collaboration with other agencies and sectors of socie ty in order to improve coordination of water resource management and to ensure that the needs of inland fisheries and aquaculture are adequately represented in management plans. An urgent requirement would be an economic and social evaluation of inland fisheries, aquaculture production, fishing communities, fish populations and aquatic environments in general. -

No results found.The Thirty-first Session of the European Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture Advisory Commission (EIFAAC) was held in Killarney, Ireland, from 22 to 24 June 2022. The Session presented and discussed the results achieved by EIFAAC, its Management Committee and its Technical and Scientific Committee since the Thirtieth Session of EIFAAC in 2019. The Commission adopted four Resolutions and one Recommendation: 1) On EIFAAC Resolutions, Recommendations and Advisory Notes; 2) On the Code of Conduct for Recreational Fisheries and Invasive Alien Species; 3) On the protection of vulnerable and endangered fish species from unsustainable predation from cormorants; 4) On small-scale fisheries and aquaculture; and 5) On the Code of Practice for Recreational Fisheries. The Commission also reviewed the endorsed the recommendations from the well-attended EIFAAC International Symposium on “Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture - Advances in Technology, Stock Assessment and Citizen Science in an Era of Climate Change”, held in Killarney, Ireland, from 20 to 21 June 2022. Finally, the Commission reviewed and endorsed the updated EIFAAC Rules of Procedure and the work programme 2022–2024 and elected new officers. The Session and Symposium received generous support from the host organizations, Inland Fisheries Ireland and the Irish Department of Environment, Climate and Communications. -

No results found.The twenty-seventh Session of the European Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture Advisory Commission (EIFAAC) was held in Hämeenlinna, Finland, from 24 to 26 October 2012. The Session reviewed EIFAAC’s intersessional achievements since the last Session in 2010 which included inter alia the approval by the FAO Council of the change of name from EIFAC to EIFAAC to include aquaculture and of the revised Statutes of EIFAAC, finalization and adoption of the amended EIFAAC Rules of Procedure, and the progress made on technical and scientific issues through the EIFAAC projects. The EIFAAC Strategy Plan for 2012–2016 was adopted. The twenty-eighth Session will be held in 2014.
