DocumentFisheries development possibilities in the Republic of Kenya 1975
Also available in:
No results found. The report briefly reviews the fishery resources situation in waters off' Kenya and the main commercial marine fisheries activities in the country. The production of fish and the planned development are also discussed. The report recommends that a project for development of prawn fishery be implemented. Its purpose would be to investigate on a semi-commercial basis the possibilities of deep-water shrimp trawling with an ultimate objective of setting up a sizable commercial operation. The report discusses the possibilities of tuna long-lining which because of serious technical difficulties could be conceived initially as a training operation on the basis of which a decision could be made at a later stage as to whether this type of fishery should be developed or not. The report also suggests that a test fishing operation for demersal and pelagic trawling be carried out to assess the possibilities of exploiting both the demersal and the pelagic of the North Kenya Banks.
