dc.description.abstract This thematic paper discusses current developments and trends in the region to assess the extent to which forests and forestry presently contribute to poverty elimination. It investigates a variety of alternative development directions for formal and informal forestry sectors and identifies a number of possible directions that forestry will likely take in the next decade in order to discuss whether forests and forestry will have any significant role in poverty reduction.
