Is There a Future Role for Forests and Forestry in Reducing Poverty?

Abstract

This thematic paper discusses current developments and trends in the region to assess the extent to which forests and forestry presently contribute to poverty elimination. It investigates a variety of alternative development directions for formal and informal forestry sectors and identifies a number of possible directions that forestry will likely take in the next decade in order to discuss whether forests and forestry will have any significant role in poverty reduction.
