dc.description.abstract | Access to food in markets is hindered by high food prices, conflicts and civil insecurity: during the reporting period (May-August), sorghum (Feterita) prices increased by 20% in Khartoum. Between August and September the number of food insecure people has dramatically increased to 4.5 million; agencies agree that the food security situation is critical. Conflicts in Abyei, South Kordofan and Blue Nile are causing massive displacements, but restrictions on access severely limited humanitar ian organisations' response. International agencies call for urgent action to prevent a looming humanitarian and food crisis in the two strife-affected regions of Blue Nile and South Kordofan. FAO is distributing vegetable seeds and tools to vulnerable households. | |
