No results found.The One Country One Priority Product (OCOP) initiative was officially launched globally by Qu Dongyu, Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) on 7 September 2021. It aims to enhance the sustainability of value chains of the Special Agricultural Products (SAPs). The global success in implementing the OCOP initiative depends greatly on the establishment of an effective demonstration mechanism to lead, showcase, and facilitate the sustainable development of SAPs in all OCOP countries. This report presents the outcomes of the First FAO Technical Workshop on the One Country One Priority Product (OCOP) Initiative, held from 15 to 18 July 2024 in Sanya, China. OCOP focal points from 16 demonstration countries across five regions, experts, partners and stakeholders exchanged experiences and strategies to promote the sustainable development of Special Agricultural Products (SAPs). Co-organized by the FAO OCOP Secretariat and the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences (CATAS), the workshop emphasized national leadership, value chain development, resource mobilization and synergies. It strengthened collaboration, technical exchanges, and networks to accelerate OCOP’s contribution to more efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable agrifood systems worldwide. -

No results found.The purpose of this technical background paper is to provide an overview of the FAO Global Action called One Country One Priority Product (OCOP) initiative, capture its current progress in the Pacific SIDS, and set the background for the upcoming OCOP session at the SIDS Solutions Forum 2024. The Forum serves as a platform to showcase the achievements of the past year, facilitate the exchange of learning and best practices and engage with stakeholders to chart a path forward. The Forum is a critical opportunity to strengthen partnerships, attract new participants and ensure the continued success of the OCOP initiative in addressing the unique challenges faced by SIDS in the countries already involved in OCOP, as well as inspire others to join this movement towards sustainable agrifood systems transformation. This paper was presented at the 2024 Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Solutions Forum held 5-8 November in Nadi, Fiji. -

No results found.FAO has developed the Global Action on Green Development of Special Agro-Products (SAPs): “One Country One Priority Product” (OCOP) in line with the new FAO Strategic Framework 2022-31. It aims to support FAO Members in addressing the interlinked economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable agri-food systems, and to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Global Action will promote inclusive, profitable and environmentally sustainable food value-chains through green development of SAPs with unique qualities and special characteristics. Green development of SAPs can help address the existing and emerging challenges, including natural resource constraints, environmental pollution, ecological degradation and climate change. Objectives of the launch event The launch event of the Global Action has three objectives: • present the framework of the Global Action and raise awareness of the contribution of green development of SAPs to the achievement of the SDGs, the FAO Strategic Framework 2022-31, as well as its Regional Initiatives, and country priorities; • seek interest and support of FAO Members to contribute to, cooperate on and promote the implementation of the Global Action; and • engage a wide group of diverse stakeholders to participate actively in the implementation of the Global Action.
