No results found.Rural women are the backbone of the rural economy representing about 43 percent of the agricultural labour force in developing countries. In the Asia-Pacific region, rural women play a key role in food systems and rural household livelihood holding main responsibilities in food production, sale and procurement, food preparation and distribution, family food and nutrition security, as well as child rearing and care giving. As such, gender equality and women’s empowerment in rural areas are central to FAO’s mandate consisting in sustainable agricultural production and rural development for the elimination of hunger and poverty. The Gender Newsletter Asia Pacific #2, 2019 consists in showcasing FAO’s gender-related work at country and regional levels thus contributing to FAO’s strategic objective 6 – Technical quality, knowledge and services. More specifically, this publication intends to share stories, events, publications and activities related to gender and rural women in the Asia-Pacific region with relevant stakeholders on a regular basis.

Both countries are leading suppliers of agricultural products to global markets, where exportable supplies are often concentrated in a handful of countries. The Russian Federation is also a leading producer and exporter of fuels and fertilizers. The war in Ukraine is resulting in growing global market tightness, lifting prices for food, fertilizers and fuels to new highs. This report reviews the main market risks associated with the conflict, assesses the impacts on global food supplies and food security and puts forward policy recommendations and proposals to deal with the situation. -

Fully illustrated dichotomous keys to all taxa are provided. Species are treated in detail, with accounts including the scientific name, FAO common name in English (where available), other useful characters, size, a distribution map, and one or more illustrations. To facilitate even further the identification of the taxa, captions and arrows are added to help users quickly locate their key morphological features. The guide is intended for both specialists, and nonspecialists who have a working knowledge of ichthyology.
