4 The gateway to the Organization's knowledge

All knowledge products with the FAO logo must be published in the FAO Knowledge Repository. The full list of what should be published in the repository is found in Appendix 1 of the "Quality assurance guidelines". At the final step of the publishing process (step 10 of the Publications Workflow System), the knowledge product is published online by OCCP in the FAO Knowledge Repository.

The FAO Knowledge Repository is the gateway to the intellectual output of the Organization. It contains the digital versions of all FAO publications, including flagship reports, technical papers, meeting documents and communication material. FAO has an open access policy, encouraging the use, reproduction and dissemination of the information it produces. The repository is an invaluable resource for making publications fully free and open access, as well as easily discoverable and shareable.

The About page of the repository provides more information about its contents, its benefits, and how users can search and browse effectively to find what they are looking for. Publishing in the FAO Knowledge Repository means that publications will be more visible, discoverable and accessible to target audiences. The repository feeds FAO.org web pages, providing increased visibility of knowledge products. It also has a mechanism for interoperability, meaning that other repositories are able to harvest and share FAO content, further increasing discoverability. Finally, the repository’s statistics module provides information to monitor and measure the impact of a publication impact.
