    This Summary Report is the outcome of a virtual knowledge exchange event on good practices in corporate gender equality mechanisms and gender mainstreaming programmes, organized in July 2020 by the United Nations Rome-based Agencies - FAO, IFAD and WFP - in the framework of the Joint Programme on Gender Transformative Approaches for Food Security and Nutrition (JP GTA) and in collaboration with the FAO Women’s Committee. The event was aimed at enhancing peer-to-peer learning and experience sharing on how to promote institutional engagement for gender equality. The good practices and lessons learned from IFAD and WFP, encapsulated in this Summary Report, will support FAO’s efforts to establish a gender equality incentive and reward system and feed into the advocacy work of the FAO Women’s Committee.

    This document outlines a checklist on biosecurity for small and medium-scale pig farms in Sumbawanga, Tanzania. It has been developed, tested and validated in a participatory manner with farmers, extension officers and subject matter experts. While part 1 of this document includes the checklist itself, part 2 describes how the checklist has been developed, which might be interest for professionals that are interested to replicate this approach in other countries of livestock systems. This document is part of an effort of the Progressive Management Pathway for Terrestrial Animal Biosecurity (PMP-TAB) of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), which is a collaborative, stepwise approach to assessing and managing biological risks, to strengthen biosecurity in terrestrial animal production and associated value chains.

    Barriers, incentives and benefits in the adoption of climate-smart agriculture – Lessons from the MICCA pilot project in Kenya

    This study examines the incentives and constraints to adoption of the promoted climate-smart agricultural practices in Kaptumo, Nandi County of Kenya. Findings and insights from this study provides useful knowledge on the dynamics of adoption of the Climate-smart agriculture (CSA) practices and lessons learnt to further inform extension, projects and up-scaling. The results from this study are valid for the population in the MICCA pilot site and may be generalized to similar areas in Nandi Count y and other counties in the country, which are characterized by tea-maize-dairy farming system and small land sizes. The study considers wider policy, institutional and social structures and processes that may affect adoption. In addition the assessment also provides farmers’ perceptions on initial benefits of those practices in terms of agricultural production, livelihoods diversification, overall resilience to climatic risks and household food security.
