West Kalimantan has a high diversity of biodiversity. In Betung Kerihun National Park, at least 1,216 flora species are identified, 75 species of them are endemic to Kalimantan. The area also has at least 48 mammal species, including orangutan and honey bear. Conserving this biodiversity is important to sustain the ecological function. The Assisted Natural Regeneration, introduced by the Forest Investment Program-1 with the objective to provide alternative methodology for conserving biodiversity, improve natural wilding growth, and support in sustainin genetic resources. Vegetation analyses were conducted in several transects representing different forest habitat in West Kalimantan. Both flora and fauna were recorded and analyze on their protection status, abundance, and diversity. A 2,000 Ha within the Danau Sentarum National park area was targeted for the ANR program. Flora/fauna plots were distributed at the peat forest in Pulau Majang Village. At the seedling stage, 5 species were identified. Dichilante borneensis dominated the seedling stage. At the tree stage, a species of Shorea balangaran dominates the strata with more than 1,000 individuals per Ha. Mother trees of Shorea balangaran and Gonystylus bancanus were also identified and marked for future seeds collection. During the forest patrol in the period of September 2020, seedlings were checked and any disturbance (grasses, climbers, tree falls) were removed. ANR focused on liberating seedlings and poles from these disturbances. Additionally, observation on fauna were conducted. Mammal species, reptile, and bird species were identified, in which all of them are protected (CITES I & II and according to the Indonesian regulation). Sectoral coordination of forest management policy in North Korean legal system

This study aims at understanding policy coordination between the forest sector and non-forest sector for forest management in the overall North Korean laws. It investigates forest policies revealed in the North Korean legal system by searching for forest-related keywords in 239 North Korean Acts. This study focuses on two main goals through the content analysis ethodology. First, it aims to analyze the connection between the Forest Act and non-forest Acts (e.g., Energy Act, Water Resource Management Act, Environment Act, etc.) in terms of forest policy and forest management. Second, the study classifies the categories of forest-related keywords in North Korean Acts based on the four forest ecosystem services (provisioning, supporting, regulating, and cultural services). The research first extracts forest-related keywords in North Korean laws by using the Unification Law Database offered by the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Unification in South Korea. Through extracting and categorizing keywords of Acts, this study examines the state of North Korean forest management from a macroscopic viewpoint: the functions of forests that North Korea emphasizes and the forest management issues in law and regulations. Research findings provide a better understanding of the sectoral coordination of forest management policy in the North Korean legal system towards a sustainable society. Wood have a carbon storage capacity. The increase in wood use reduces carbon emissions and responds to climate change. The result, the development of the wood industry leads to sustainable development. Therefore, the development direction of the wood industry was suggested using the KS certification scheme. Industrialization is based on standardization. The first 43 standards were established in 1962 by the Korea Standards Bureau. Currently, there are about 20,000 Korean Standards (KS). In 1963, Incandescent lamps received the first KS certification. Korea Forestry Promotion Institute is the only KS certification institute in the wood sector. Korea Forestry Promotion Institute was designated as a KS certification institute in 2015. From 2016 to the present, about 200 cases have been certified for 33 items. I have analyzed the wood industry based on the statistics obtained from the KS certification scheme. The First, KS certified auditors audit nonconformities in factory audits. I presented nonconformities as statistics. I analyzed the quality control capabilities of wood companies with these statistics. I think this is a challenge for the Wood Industry to solve. The second, I checked the quantity of products that have received KS certification every year. Changes in demand for KS certified products were confirmed by changing the quantity of KS certified products. Keywords: Monitoring and data collection ID: 3623080
