Roma, 4-8 febrero y 25-29 agosto de 2008. 2009This is the report of the Technical Consultation on International Guidelines for the Management of Deep-sea Fisheries in the High Seas held in Rome in two sessions (4¿8 February and 25¿29 August 2008). The aim of the Consultation was to review the draft International Guidelines for the Management of Deep-sea Fisheries in the High Seas which had been developed at the request of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations Committee on Fisheries at its twenty-seventh ses sion (March 2007) in order to assist States and regional fisheries management organizations and arrangements in sustainably managing deep-sea fisheries and in implementing the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 61/105 chapter 10, concerning responsible fisheries in the marine ecosystem. This document contains the report of the Technical Consultation as well as the International Guidelines as adopted by the meeting.

No results found.This Expert Consultation was convened in order to address continuing global concerns regarding deep-sea fisheries in the high seas and build on outputs from previous conferences. The impetus for the consultation resulted from recommendations from the 26th COFI. Four main aspects of deep-sea fisheries in the high seas were focused on: the overall resource, management of the resource, legal issues, and high seas marine protected areas. The consultation sought to improve knowledge of management iss ues and constraints. Activities that build on this information will follow in 2007 and 2008. This document contains and overview of the meeting and the main conclusions and recommendations developed by the participants. In addition the four background papers that were commissioned for the consultation, as well as complimentary presentations and documents presented in Bangkok are included. -

No results found.This document contains the results and recommendations of the discussions that took place during the Skippers and Fleet Managers Workshop to Review the International Guidelines on the Management of Deep-sea Fisheries in the High Seas which was held from 26 to 28 May 2008 in Cape Town, South Africa. The workshop was organized to obtain an industry perspective on the draft FAO International Guidelines on the Management of Deep-sea Fisheries in the High Seas and to solicit industry views and advi ce on how to conduct fisheries research from commercial vessels and to minimize adverse impacts on benthic habitat and vulnerable marine ecosystems (VMEs).
