The Stakeholder Meeting to Present and Discuss the FAO Study Report on Cross-Border Trade in Artisanal Smoked Fish in West Africa was jointly organized by the Value Chain Development Team (NFIMV) of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the FAO Representation in Togo (FAOTG). The Meeting aimed to share, discuss and validate the results of this study report, and to gather further recommendations from the various stakeholders. It also paved the way for the development of a strategic plan to guide the way forward in improving cross-border trade in smoked fish and strengthening trade integration in the subregion in light of the recommendations made and the opportunities offered by regional fish trade, in particular the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The meeting included a session of ten thematic presentations, group sessions on key policy recommendations, as well as concluding remarks and next steps. It was attended by 27 representatives of fisheries ministries, fish processors and traders from the five countries concerned (Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana and Togo), and FAO representatives.

FAO Strategy on Climate Change 2022–2031 2022
The FAO Strategy on Climate Change 2022–2031 was endorsed by FAO Council in June 2022. This new strategy replaces the previous strategy from 2017 to better FAO's climate action with the Strategic Framework 2022-2031, and other FAO strategies that have been developed since then. The Strategy was elaborated following an inclusive process of consultation with FAO Members, FAO staff from headquarters and decentralized offices, as well as external partners. It articulates FAO's vision for agrifood systems by 2050, around three main pillars of action: at global and regional level, at country level, and at local level. The Strategy also encourages key guiding principles for action, such as science and innovation, inclusiveness, partnerships, and access to finance.

    Guideline
    Responsible fish utilization 1998
These guidelines have been produced to support the implementation of the Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries particularly with regard to the need for responsibility in the post-harvest sector of the fish producing industry. The industry that produces fish for food has three major areas of responsibility: to the consumer of the food to ensure that it is safe to eat, is of expected quality and nutritional value, to the resource to ensure that it is not wasted and to the envir onment to ensure that negative impacts are minimized. In addition the industry has a responsibility to itself to ensure the continued ability of many millions of people throughout the world to earn a gainful living from working within the industry. Article 11.1 of the Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries and other related parts of the Code are concerned particularly with these responsibilities. This publication provides annotation to and guidance on these articles to assist those c harged with implementation of the Code to identify possible courses of action necessary to ensure that the industry is conducted in a sustainable manner.
