Synopsis (short abstract) In Lebanon, forests and other wooded lands provide a wide range of ecosystem products and services. In 2014, the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) initiated with the support of FAO Lebanon the process of developing the National Afforestation/Reforestation Program (NARP), also known as the “40 Million Trees Program”. The program aims at planting 40 million forest trees in public lands within the next 20 years FAO is contributing to this Program by planting more than 500 000 seedlings on an area up to 1000 ha and managing around 1000 ha of existing forests, with local NGOs and partners.

    This report triangulates qualitative and quantitative primary and secondary data to analyze Lebanon’s main NWFPs value chains: pine nuts – Pinus pinea -, honey, Syrian oregano and sage – Origanum syriacum and Salvia fruticosa -, and laurel - Laurus nobilis. For each value chain, the report proposes recommendations for the development of innovative and adaptive interventions that allow for the improvement of forest-based sustainable livelihoods.

    As the initial funder of the Forest and Landscape Restoration Mechanism (FLRM), the Korea Forest Service has consistently supported the implementation of forest and landscape restoration (FLR) activities in Lebanon since 2014 and has agreed to extend its financial support to 2025.The FLRM projects in Lebanon mainly aim to step up restoration efforts by establishing and strengthening an enabling environment focused on pilot activities that apply suitable FLR approaches. These are designed to contribute to the achievement of national and global restoration targets as set out by the nationally determined contributions (NDCs), the Bonn Challenge, Aichi Targets and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

    地理标志食品的营养与健康潜力 2022

    在很多重要文件中，传统食品、饮食和粮食体系在大众营养状况中所发挥的重要作用得到了认可。社会经济、生物多样性、自然资源可利用性及地理标志的使用都会影响营养和饮食，但关于前三项的研究比最后一项要多得多。在促进健康饮食和遏制非传染性疾病方面，地理标志食品的潜力值得探索。本书共有五个案例，研究了五种已注册的地理标志食品的营养潜力。 本书探讨了生产过程和最终产品营养成分之间的关系。事实上，这些食品的营养特性在很大程度上可以归因于它们独特的成分和生产过程，与其地理来源密切相关。对营养成分的分析既需要考虑普通的营养素，还要考虑生物活性化合物，后者通常不会出现在营养成分表中。 本书也探究了一些与个案研究对象相似但不一定认证了地理标志的食品。在个案研究后，本书第三部分简要探讨了三个专题：规范地理标志食品以保持和提高营养质量、地理标志食品在健康饮食中的作用以及食品成分测定。第四部分讨论了本书的局限性，并提出了以地理标志食品促进健康饮食的建议。很多受地理标志保护的传统食品是发酵食品，因此，附录涉及了益生菌、益生元和肠道菌群。
