The twenty-fifth session of the European Inland Fisheries Advisory Commission (EIFAC) was held in Antalya, Turkey, from 21 to 28 May 2008, in concomitance with a Symposium on Interactions between Social, Economic and Ecological Objectives of Inland Commercial and Recreational Fisheries and Aquaculture. The session reviewed EIFAC’s activities since 2006 in the fields of fishery biology and management, aquaculture, protection of the aquatic environment and social and economic issues. The session revised and decided EIFAC’s future programme of work, in particular the activities which should be carried out until the next session of the Commission in 2010, and reviewed the functioning of EIFAC. The twenty-sixth session will be preceded by a Symposium that will focus on multifunctional inland aquaculture. -

No results found.The FAO Advisory Committee on Fisheries Research held its fifth session in Rome from 12 to 15 October 2004. The Committee appreciated the extensive range of research activities undertaken by the FAO Fisheries Department and its partners and provided guidance to foster this work, particularly in aquaculture and inland fisheries as well as in fish utilization and trade. The Committee commended the work of its Working Parties on Small-scale Fisheries and Human Capacity Development and recommended that the Strategic Framework on Human Capacity Development be presented to the twenty-sixth session of the Committee on Fisheries in March 2005 in order to create greater awareness on the subject and encourage the use of the Strategic Framework. The Committee agreed on a work programme for 2005/2006.
