    The KnoWat project created a geospatial database based on remote sensing data gathered through the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nation’s WaPOR (WAter Productivity through Open-access of Remotely-sensed derived data) tool. The database was used to assess agricultural water consumption and water productivity by interpreting satellite images in the Senegal River Basin.

    In Sri Lanka, the project Knowing water better - Towards a more equitable and sustainable access to natural resources to achieve food security (KnoWat) established a modern geospatial database based on the FAO’s Water Productivity through Open-access of Remotely sensed derived data (WaPOR) tool. Different data on water resources are needed to assess and improve water management. In Sri Lanka, the lack of reliable data on water resources made for example agricultural predictions, plans and decisions challenging.

    Le projet KnoWat a mis à disposition une base de données géospatiale basée sur l'outil de surveillance des données dérivées de la télédétection développé pour le projet WaPOR (Water Productivity through Open-access of Remotely sensed derived data) de la FAO. Cette base de données est utilisée pour évaluer la consommation d'eau agricole et la productivité de l'eau au Sénégal en interprétant des images satellites dans le bassin du fleuve Sénégal.
