Synopsis (short abstract) This report summarizes the methods and results of the socioeconomic survey run under the MedSudMed Project on the trawl fleet in Northern Tunisia targeting shrimp (Parapenaeus longirostris) and hake (Merluccius. merluccius). Surveyed vessels belong to the classes T-11 (12-24 m LOA) and T-12 (>24 m LOA). The socioeconomic survey is conceived and divided into different parts, and 25 indicators are presented about the performance of the fleet in the years 2015, 2016 and 2017. These indicators belong to the socio-demographic, economic and technical dimension of the fishery. Data collection focused on four main fishing ports: Tabarka, Bizerte, la Goulette and Kélibia. The last part of the survey includes concerns and claims raised by boat owners and fishers during survey activities. These have been ranked in order to identify the most relevant problems to be addressed for improving management. This report has the goal of enhancing the much-needed knowledge on the socio-economic dimension of fisheries in the Mediterranean Sea, hoping that this will contribute to the development of a responsible and sustainable management of the fisheries in the area.
