No results found.This report summarizes the methods and results of the socioeconomic survey run under the MedSudMed Project on the trawl fleet in Northern Tunisia targeting shrimp (Parapenaeus longirostris) and hake (Merluccius. merluccius). Surveyed vessels belong to the classes T-11 (12-24 m LOA) and T-12 (>24 m LOA). The socioeconomic survey is conceived and divided into different parts, and 25 indicators are presented about the performance of the fleet in the years 2015, 2016 and 2017. These indicators belong to the socio-demographic, economic and technical dimension of the fishery. Data collection focused on four main fishing ports: Tabarka, Bizerte, la Goulette and Kélibia. The last part of the survey includes concerns and claims raised by boat owners and fishers during survey activities. These have been ranked in order to identify the most relevant problems to be addressed for improving management. This report has the goal of enhancing the much-needed knowledge on the socio-economic dimension of fisheries in the Mediterranean Sea, hoping that this will contribute to the development of a responsible and sustainable management of the fisheries in the area. -

No results found.This report presents a collation of data describing the monthly catch weights by important species groups, the associated fishing efforts and catch weight per unit effort, and the fishing locations, for a period of 3 years from 1979 to 1982. Data collection involved catch enumeration at the landing sites by employees of the Department of Agriculture, and the interviewing of skippers for details of fishing efforts and fishing locations by project personnel and counterparts. The mean annual catch of 4973 tons from the Gulf of Suez is tentatively suggested as reflecting full exploitation. The potential annual catch estimated for the less exploited grounds adjacent to the Egyptian border with Sudan is 1111 tons; which is some 378 tons more than the 1982/1983 catch. -

This new strategy replaces the previous strategy from 2017 to better FAO's climate action with the Strategic Framework 2022-2031, and other FAO strategies that have been developed since then. The Strategy was elaborated following an inclusive process of consultation with FAO Members, FAO staff from headquarters and decentralized offices, as well as external partners. It articulates FAO's vision for agrifood systems by 2050, around three main pillars of action: at global and regional level, at country level, and at local level. The Strategy also encourages key guiding principles for action, such as science and innovation, inclusiveness, partnerships, and access to finance.

No results found.The FAOSTAT emissions database is composed of several data domains covering the categories of the IPCC Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector of the national GHG inventory. Energy use in agriculture is additionally included as relevant to emissions from agriculture as an economic production sector under the ISIC A statistical classification, though recognizing that, in terms of IPCC, they are instead part of the Energy sector of the national GHG inventory. FAO emissions estimates are available over the period 1961–2018 for agriculture production processes from crop and livestock activities. Land use emissions and removals are generally available only for the period 1990–2019. This analytical brief focuses on overall trends over the period 2000–2018.
