No results found.The African Development Bank (AfDB) is funding the Building Resilience for Food and Nutrition Security in the Horn of Africa (BREFONS) project – South Sudan component. The project aims to enhance the livelihoods in Horn of Africa with a focus on food and nutrition security, increasing resilience, and promoting peace and security. The project is being implemented by FAO on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS) of the Republic of South Sudan. Under this projects, different project construction infrastructure in the greater Kapoeta counties were undertaken with crucial implementation of environmental and social activities. This is according to need of preventing and responding to the threat to community livelihoods posed by the Drought and vagaries of weather and strengthen the beneficiary’s system for preparedness. -

This Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) report pertains to a sub-project entailing the drilling of boreholes in Aweil Rice Irrigation Scheme and Kapoeta Counties – East, North and South. This sub-project is part of the Building Resilience for Food and Nutrition Security in the Horn of Africa (BREFONS) initiative, funded by the African Development Bank and implemented in the Eastern Equatorial State and Northern Bahr el Ghazal states. The total cost for rehabilitating the 10km road is $422,500.00 USD, with a scheduled completion timeframe of two months. -

This report explores the intersection of gender equality, climate change and agriculture in the lives of smallholder farmers and the important role that gender-responsive climate-smart agriculture plays in achieving food security and building inclusive and resilient agrifood systems. It calls for initiatives that identify gender-specific needs in natural resource management, including both practical needs for daily living and strategic needs for building long-term resilience (such as equitable access to vital resources and participation in decision-making) in different dimensions of their lives. -
