    The process to establish the World Banana Forum (WBF) was led by a group of representatives from banana grower organizations, exporter associations, multinational and national trading companies, trade unions, supermarket chains, intergovernmental organizations, research institutions and non-governmental organizations. This group formed a Preparatory Committee which made possible the establishment of the WBF by organizing the needed preparatory meetings and the WBF inaugural meeting in December 2009. The banana stakeholders agreed to nominate a group of representatives which is in charge of coordinating the ongoing work of the World Banana Forum and its Working Groups. This group is the Steering Committee. Everyone can join the Steering Committee provided that they have sufficient time and willingness to support actively this Forum. The balance between the different groups has been a priority since this group was initially formed. Meetings are held biannually.

    Red Global sobre R4T. Una iniciativa del Foro Mundial Bananero es el folleto corporativo de la Red Global sobre R4T (RGR4T). Muestra el papel de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Agricultura y la Alimentación (FAO) como líder en los esfuerzos mundiales para combatir la propagación de la Raza 4 tropical (R4T), un hongo que está devastando las plantaciones de banano y plátano en tres continentes. La audiencia para el folleto corporativo es principalmente responsables políticos y responsables de la toma de decisiones, pero también es relevante para expertos, académicos, estudiantes, medios de comunicación y público en general. Junto con una mirada histórica a la enfermedad que afecta al banano y plátano, el folleto aclara los términos reconocidos a nivel mundial utilizados para discutir la R4T. Es decir, diferencia entre: la enfermedad (Marchitez del Banano por Fusarium); el hongo (Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense); y la cepa actual del hongo (Raza 4 tropical o R4T)
