No results found.Upon the request of the Government of Indonesia, a short-term technical assistance on seaweed farming was rendered. The authors gathered available background information and field work led by the senior author was conducted in four selected provinces in the country in April 1980. Nine sites were surveyed, three of which were identified as suitable sites for pilot demonstration of seaweed farming. A programme of development of these farms and the facilities and training needs required are describ ed. A draft proposal for technical assistance project in this type of seafarming is appended. -

No results found.The paper describes the general physical and demographic features of eastern Sorsogon where Gracilaria farming is being developed. Gracilaria, like the Eucheuma seaweeds prior to farming, are presently gathered from the wild stocks. Unless some form of management is introduced, the natural seaweed beds will be depleted due to intensive collection for cash income by the fishing community. Initial development activities carried out by the Project, PHI/89/004, is presented with recommendations for immediate future action to ensure sustainability of development efforts being provided by the project. -

No results found.This Business Plan is developed as a practical reference for cooperative leaders of the PHI/89/004 project beneficiaries in the implementation and management of a 1 hectare Seaweed Cooperative Farm for Sorsogon, Philippines. This Business Plan can also be used as a management tool for decision making for the cooperative and as an investor's guide or basis for a loan proposal for banks and other financial institutions. The development of this Business Plan is based on the technical reports of D r. Nyan Taw, Chief Technical Adviser, Mr. Luis V. Guanio, Marketing Consultant and project documents prepared by Mr. Faustino Taclan, Project Leader and the Project Staff. The use of this Business Plan is only to the extent of defined scope and purposes. Hence, it is not a substitute for good management of a project or a substitute for entrepreneurial ability of investors. This document contains the background, rationale of Seaweed Production Project and the technical, market, financial and organizational specifications for the implementation of a 1 hectare Cooperative Seaweed Farm Project.
