The Special Working Group on the evaluation of the demersal resources of the southern CECAF region met from 13-18 November at the Centre de recherches océanographiques in Abidjan. The meeting was chaired by Mr C. Champagnat. The purpose of this meeting organized by CECAF was to assess the level of exploitation of demersal stocks in the area between Ivory Coast and Zaire and to recommend appropriate management procedures. The CECAF project extends its thanks to His Excellency the Minister of Sc ientific Research of the Republic of Ivory Coast and to Mr H. Rotschi, Director of the Centre de recherches océanographiques of Abidjan, whose kind cooperation made possible the meeting of this Working Group in Ivory Coast. Fifteen scientists participated in this meeting; their names are listed in Appendix 1. The proposed agenda was adopted, and is found in Appendix 2 of this report. Mr A. Caverivière and Mr Champagnat were appointed rapporteurs. -

Le Groupe de travail ad hoc sur l’évaluation des ressources en crevettes du secteur sud de la région COPACE s’est réuni au Centre de recherchés océanographiques d’Abidjan, sous la présidence du Dr S. Garcia du Centre de recherches océanographiques de Dakar-Thiaroye. Cette réunion a été organisée par le Projet COPACE pour évaluer le niveau d’exploitation des stocks de crevettes du secteur Côte d’Ivoire/Congo et pour préconiser des mesures d’aménagement. En prévision de la réunion d’aménagement pr oposée lors de la 5ème session du COPACE à Lomé en mars 1977 (Résolution CECAF/V/2, COPACE, 1977 b) le Groupe a examiné de façon particulière les stocks de crevettes au large du Nigéria et du Cameroun. Le Projet COPACE tient à remercier son Excellence Monsieur le Ministre de la recherche scientifique de la République de Côte d’Ivoire et Monsieur H. Rotschi, Directeur du Centre de recherches océanographiques d’Abidjan pour leur coopération qui a rendu possible la réunion du Groupe de travail en Côte d’Ivoire. -
