Book (stand-alone)Benefits of AGRIS Application Profile over simple Dublin Core 2007
Also available in:
No results found. In databases such as AGRIS, there is large quantity of metadata records, dating back several decades. Most of these records do not have full-text documents available in the originating repositories. However, it has been shown by a paper published in the Dublin Core Conference in 20032 that there is an effort to put resources on the Internet retrospectively. This paper proposes that for scientific and technical information resources, a well-structured and high-quality metadata record co ntains enough information to find that resource on the Internet, and as a consequence, no additional human labour is needed to create or maintain any links to full-text. -
Book (stand-alone)The AGRIS Application Profile for the International Information System on Agricultural Sciences and Technology
Guidelines on Best Practices for Information Object Description
2005The first COAIM (Consultation on Agricultural information Management), held in June 2000 recognized that AGRIS should become “a key enabler and catalyst to establish a new model of agricultural information management”. Furthermore, it was agreed that FAO [1] should develop AGRIS into a capacity building initiative as well as an information system. The AGRIS network now has 201 Resource Centres, which vary in their resources and level of participation in the network, and opportunities exist to im prove the effectiveness of the initiative through enhanced collaboration. A proposal for a new metadata standard for AGRIS reference was presented at COAIM 2002. This paper is a result of the evaluations made during COAIM 2002. It defines a set of high quality metadata on scientific and technical papers, and is directed at improving accessibility of materials on the Web. The standard also covers the necessary metadata for retrieving publications that are available only in paper format or that h ave restricted access. -
DocumentMetadata application profile for agricultural learning resources 2007
Also available in:
No results found.Capacity and institution building is a core function of the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO). FAO has recently started the “Capacity and Institution Building Portal” to provide structured access to information on FAO’s capacity and institution building services and learning resources. To ensure that the Portal can be searched by users and to enable interoperability with other recognized educational repositories, an Application Profile (AP) was created co nforming to available and commonly used standards, to describe agricultural learning resources. This article presents the AP, provides an example of an FAO learning resource described and displayed using FAO Learning Resource AP, and presents the lessons learned.
