Synopsis (short abstract) Since the foundation of FAO in 1945, Canada and FAO have worked together towards finding solutions to many of the most pressing problems of our time, and tested new ways of delivering support to those most in need. With Canada’s contributions, FAO has reached emergency areas where resilience building and crisis response are crucial, and contributed to rural transformation through investments in agricultural productivity and livelihood opportunities, fundamental to create a sustainable context for long-lasting peace.

    Eswatini (formerly Swaziland) and FAO have partnered since the country joined the Organization in 1971. FAO assistance has covered the formulation and implementation of food security and nutrition policies, including risk reduction and management strategies, and activities to increase agricultural productivity. More recently, cooperation has included a focus on market access and agricultural competiveness, with support to smallholders’ transition from subsistence to commercial agriculture. Emphasis is also given to the sustainable management of natural resources.

    The International Expert Consultation on Non-Wood Forest Products, hosted by the Ministry of Forestry, Government of Indonesia, was held in Yogyakarta, 17-27 January 1995. This was the first world-level meeting exclusively to draw attention on the problems and potentials of non-wood forest products.
