    Protein is supplied by food ingredients, whole foods, sole-source foods and mixed diets and the match between dietary supply and human protein needs is vital to support the health and well-being of human populations. Since 1989 the Protein Digestibility Corrected Amino Acid Score (PDCAAS) method for evaluating protein quality has been used widely. However, limitations of PDCAAS have been recognised and new research and its application vis-à-vis other methods of estimating dietary protein quali ty. This report of the FAO Expert Consultation on Protein Quality Evaluation in Human Nutrition considers the effectiveness and concerns about the PDCAAS method for evaluating protein quality concerning the PDCAAS method. A new method of dietary quality evaluation called DIAAS is recommended for application in practice.

    En esta nota de orientación se aborda la Meta 6.4 de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible, que busca promover el uso eficiente de los recursos hídricos, garantizando la sostenibilidad de la extracción y el abastecimiento de agua dulce. Esta meta es crucial para enfrentar la escasez de agua y reducir el número de personas a las que afecta, particularmente en el sector agropecuario, donde la seguridad alimentaria y nutricional se ve comprometida. Se fundamenta en dos indicadores: el 6.4.1, que mide la eficiencia en el uso del agua desde una perspectiva económica, y el 6.4.2, que evalúa el estrés hídrico como indicador ambiental. La FAO lidera el desarrollo metodológico y el monitoreo de estos indicadores, apoyando a los países en la generación y reporte de datos.Este documento aborda la importancia de considerar estos indicadores para la formulación de políticas públicas y la coordinación intersectorial, especialmente en el contexto del cambio climático y de la creciente frecuencia de eventos hidrometeorológicos extremos. Asimismo, se destaca la necesidad de integrar la planificación agrícola, la gestión hídrica y el cambio climático, diseñando herramientas que mejoren la eficiencia en el uso del agua.

    Guidelines for measuring gender transformative change in the context of food security, nutrition and sustainable agriculture 2023

    These Guidelines include step-by-step guidance to formulate qualitative and quantitative indicators of gender transformative change to help gender experts and food security, agriculture and nutrition programme specialists in their efforts to design, implement, monitor and evaluate gender transformative interventions. These indicators should be distinctive from and a complement to other reach, benefit and empower indicators intended to contribute to gender equality outcomes in food security, nutrition and sustainable agriculture. The Guidelines also present an overarching framework for measuring gender transformative change in the context of food and nutrition security and sustainable agriculture, including key dimensions and a socio-ecological model for identifying spheres of influence within which gender transformative change can be measured. Additionally, the Guidelines bring attention to other important issues to consider when to implement the framework and when to develop context-specific indicators of gender transformative change, such as the incorporation of insider perspectives and consideration to intersectional forms of discrimination.
