No results found.The amount of climate finance flowing to agrifood systems is strikingly low and continues to diminish vis-à-vis global climate finance flows. Agriculture is one of the sectors with the highest adaptation finance needs for implementing the nationally determined contributions (NDCs) but climate finance for adaptation is also on a downward trend. The diminishing trends of both agrifood and adaptation investments is a cause for alarm and a missed opportunity. This publication addresses the persistent knowledge gap related to climate finance to agrifood systems, providing data and information to support countries making informed decisions towards agrifood systems transformation. The analysis brings to light the evolution of climate finance in agrifood systems over the past two decades, showcasing unique sectorial analysis of climate finance allocations for adaptation and mitigation, delving into the diversity of actors involved, from bilateral and multilateral agencies to the private sector, highlighting the critical need for partnerships that transcend boundaries. -

No results found.This technical brief is a special update of the recent Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) analysis “Climate-related development finance to agrifood systems – global and regional trends” and includes newly released data for 2022. Climate finance is a fundamental element of the global development agenda and has been increasingly considered in international fora such as the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the G20 Agenda. The update aims to inform participants of the UNFCCC 29th Conference of the Parties (COP 29), as well as UN agencies, international finance institutions, national governments of both donor and recipient countries, governmental and non-governmental stakeholders, and a wider group of partners interested in climate-related development finance. The document was prepared as part of the work plan of the Food and Agriculture for Sustainable Transformation (FAST) Partnership. -

Animal agriculture substantially contributes to the world economy by providing food, jobs, and financial security for billions of people. With increasing concerns over global climate change and pollution, efforts are underway to reduce the overall environmental impact of animal production. This document analyses emission of non-carbon dioxide greenhouse gases, an important segment of the environmental footprint of animal production. It has been developed by a team that included experts in animal /ruminant nutrition, manure and soil management, animal and whole-farm modeling, and animal reproduction. Over 900 publications focusing on nutritional and manure management mitigation strategies for methane (enteric or from manure) and nitrous oxide emissions were reviewed and analysed, and a synthesis of feed-, animal management- and manure management-based mitigation approaches and interactions amongst them has been presented. This document will help researchers, animal industry consultants, policy-makers, animal producers, non-governmental organizations, and other groups with interest in maintaining a viable and environmentally-responsible animal production sector to make sound decisions on selection and adoption of effective and economically feasible greenhouse gas mitigation practices.
