    Depuis 1945, la FAO soutient les pays membres dans la réalisation de leurs recensements agricoles nationaux à travers l’élaboration et la diffusion de normes, concepts, définitions et méthodologies internationaux ainsi que par l’assistance technique. En 2015, la FAO a publié le Volume 1 du Programme mondial du recensement de l’agriculture 2020 (Programme 2020) «Programme, concepts et définitions», le dixième programme décennal qui fournit des lignes directrices pour la mise en oeuvre de recensements agricoles nationaux au cours de la décennie 2016-2025. Le Volume 1 traite des aspects méthodologiques et conceptuels du recensement de l’agriculture. Outre l’utilisation de normes internationales, le bon déroulement d’un recensement agricole dépend également d’une planification, mise en oeuvre, utilisation des ressources et assurance qualité appropriées au long de toutes les étapes du recensement. Dans ce contexte, le volume 2 du Programme 2020 «Directives opérationnelles» a été conçu pour guider les praticiens nationaux du recensement chargés de la conduite du recensement agricole. Il traite des étapes pratiques considérées dans la conduite effective d’un recensement agricole sur le terrain. Le volume 2 est une version révisée et mise à jour de «La réalisation des recensements et des enquêtes agricoles» publié par la FAO en 1996. La révision est opportune compte tenu non seulement de la récente publication du nouveau programme et méthodologie de recensement mais également des importants changements survenus dans l’environnement technologique du recensement au cours des deux dernières décennies. La disponibilité d’outils numériques, mobiles et plus abordables pour la saisie des données, le géo-positionnement, l’imagerie de télédétection, l’archivage numérique et la diffusion en ligne a offert de nouvelles alternatives rentables aux façons traditionnelles de mener le recensement agricole.

    The SWSR is a reference document on the status of global soil resources that provides regional assessments of soil change. The information is based on peer-reviewed scientific literature, complemented with expert knowledge and project outputs. It provides a description and a ranking of ten major soil threats that endanger ecosystem functions, goods and services globally and in each region separately. Additionally, it describes direct and indirect pressures on soils and ways and means to combat s oil degradation. The report contains a Synthesis report for policy makers that summarizes its findings, conclusions and recommendations.

    The FAOSTAT emissions database is composed of several data domains covering the categories of the IPCC Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector of the national GHG inventory. Energy use in agriculture is additionally included as relevant to emissions from agriculture as an economic production sector under the ISIC A statistical classification, though recognizing that, in terms of IPCC, they are instead part of the Energy sector of the national GHG inventory. FAO emissions estimates are available over the period 1961–2018 for agriculture production processes from crop and livestock activities. Land use emissions and removals are generally available only for the period 1990–2019. This analytical brief focuses on overall trends over the period 2000–2018.

    There is increasing attention to the importance of biodiversity for food security and nutrition, especially above-ground biodiversity such as plants and animals. However, less attention is being paid to the biodiversity beneath our feet, soil biodiversity, which drives many processes that produce food or purify soil and water. This report is the result of an inclusive process involving more than 300 scientists from around the world under the auspices of the FAO’s Global Soil Partnership and its Intergovernmental Technical Panel on Soils, the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Global Soil Biodiversity Initiative, and the European Commission. It presents concisely the state of knowledge on soil biodiversity, the threats to it, and the solutions that soil biodiversity can provide to problems in different fields. It also represents a valuable contribution to raising awareness of the importance of soil biodiversity and highlighting its role in finding solutions to today's global threats.
