No results found.Pillar 4 of the UNDFF Global Action Plan (GAP) recognizes the role of communication as a driver to advance family farming and emphasizes the need for Rural communication services (RCS), improved communication and ICT capacity of family farmers and increased awareness of their central role in the agrifood systems. Radio still is the most widely used medium for sharing information with rural audiences. Building on the experiences gained in 2021 and 2022, a Rural Radio Initiative to raise awareness and advance family farming and sustainable agrifood systems has been developed in 2023 in Africa, Asia and Latin America fostering long-term collaboration between farmer organizations and rural radios. The Rural Radio Initiative 2023 will use a participatory approach to radio programming addressing specific family farmers’ needs and priorities. The initiative intends to empower family farmers, by facilitating knowledge exchange and ownership of the communication activities by the farmers organizations and their members. Farmers’ organizations will actively participate in the design of the radio series by defining topics, organizing broadcast schedules, identifying interviewees and contributing to the sharing of the radio programmes. -
