No results found.Rural populations, especially small-scale producers and women, are disproportionately impacted by climate change since their livelihoods depend largely on natural resources and weather patterns. This paper reviews the available evidence on the role of social protection programmes in facilitating climate change adaptation and mitigation, with a specific emphasis on economic inclusion for agriculture-dependent households. The review also presents available evidence on the ability of social protection programmes to contribute to mitigation targets through reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and in easing the impact of climate mitigation policies on price inflation, job losses and income insecurity.The review underscores the importance of a systems approach. Both climate policies and social protection policies should incorporate specific elements to effectively complement each other. -

This briefing paper presents the findings of a review of social protection for rural populations within the Green Climate Fund (GCF) portfolio. This analysis of 23 GCF-funded projects outlines both promising approaches and key challenges.Building on these insights, the GCF should scale up the use of social protection, enhancing gender and inclusion efforts, strengthening long-term system building and cross-sectoral coordination, and fostering global partnerships for financing and knowledge-sharing. In addition to FAOSTYLE in six languages, this guidance also includes: "Publishing policy", providing high-level guidance aimed at those involved in the creation or approval of a publishing plan; "Authorship and plagiarism guidelines", outlining the principles and criteria for authorship of FAO publications; "Graphic design guidelines", focusing on the practical application of FAO's visual identity and design standards; “Responsible use of AI in publishing”, covering how to use AI responsibly and ethically when producing a publication; “Open Access policy”, a summary of the policy that encourages the wide use, reproduction and dissemination of the intellectual property that FAO produces; and "Digital publishing", guidance on how to create a digital (HTML) publication.
