No results found.The Ninth Session of the Scientific Committee (SC) of the Southwest Indian Ocean Fisheries Commission (SWIOFC) was held from 16 to 19 July 2019 in Réunion, France. The Committee reviewed the national reports on the status of fisheries and fisheries resources, on the management actions undertaken by member countries in the intersessional period and on the fishery research activities carried out or in planning. The national reports on fisheries management plans being implemented or planned, the current state of the certification of fisheries, the knowledge on discards and by-catch and the impact of climate events on fisheries and aquaculture were also presented and commented upon. La neuvième session du Comité scientifique de la Commission des Pêches du Sud-Ouest de l'Océan Indien (CPSOOI) s'est tenue du 16 au 19 juillet 2019 à la Réunion, France. Le Comité a examiné les rapports nationaux sur l'état des ressources halieutiques et les mesures de gestion prises par les pays membres pendant la période d'intersession, ainsi que les activités de recherche halieutique menées ou prévues. Les rapports nationaux sur les plans de gestion des pêches mis en œuvre ou prévus, l'état actuel de la certification des pêcheries, les connaissances sur les rejets et les prises accessoires et l'impact des phénomènes climatiques sur les pêches et l'aquaculture ont également été présentés et commentés. -

No results found.This is the final version of the report of the eleventh session of the Scientific Committee of the South-West Indian Ocean Fisheries Commission. It was prepared by the Secretariat of the SWIOFC, based on the information provided by the participants at the meeting. The 11th Session of the SC of the SWIOFC was dedicated to make an outline of the work on fisheries monitoring and management currently on-going at national level and in the region and on the identification of future work lines and roles. The meeting of the Scientific Committee is being convened under the Statutes of the Southwest Indian Ocean Fisheries Commission adopted under Resolution 1/127 of the Hundred and Twenty-seventh Session of the FAO Council. It is open to members of the Commission, coastal States with sovereignty over waters within the area of competence of the Commission and to observers.Ceci est la version finale du rapport de la onzième session du Comité scientifique de la Commission des pêches du sud-ouest de l’océan Indien. Il a été préparé par le Secrétariat du SWIOFC, sur la base des informations fournies par les participants à la réunion. La 11ème session du CS du SWIOFC a été consacrée à faire un aperçu du travail sur le suivi et la gestion des pêches actuellement en cours au niveau national et dans la région et sur l'identification des futures lignes de travail et des rôles. Book (stand-alone)GuidelineGlobal Strategic Framework in support of the implementation of the Voluntary Guidelines for Securing Sustainable Small-Scale Fisheries 2020FAO is supporting the Global Strategic Framework (SSF-GSF) in support of the implementation of the Voluntary Guidelines for Securing Sustainable Small-Scale Fisheries in the Context of Food Security and Poverty Eradication (SSF Guidelines). The SSF-GSF is a partnership mechanism giving small-scale fishery actors, government representatives and other stakeholders a space to collaborate at a global level. One key objective is to give small-scale fishery actors an opportunity to advise others on how they would like to see the SSF Guidelines put into action. The SSF-GSF has an advisory and facilitative role. Its members can share experiences, mobilize resources together, develop synergies and coordinate efforts to advocate for policies and approaches that favour the implementation of the SSF Guidelines. The work in the SSF-GSF complements the FAO Umbrella Programme for the promotion and application of the SSF Guidelines. The SSF-GSF was developed on recommendation from COFI, and its activities are reported back to COFI.

Moving forward on food loss and waste reduction
2019The need to reduce food loss and waste is firmly embedded in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Food loss and waste reduction is considered important for improving food security and nutrition, promoting environmental sustainability and lowering production costs. However, efforts to reduce food loss and waste will only be effective if informed by a solid understanding of the problem. This report provides new estimates of the percentage of the world’s food lost from production up to the retail level. The report also finds a vast diversity in existing estimates of losses, even for the same commodities and for the same stages in the supply chain. Clearly identifying and understanding critical loss points in specific supply chains – where considerable potential exists for reducing food losses – is crucial to deciding on appropriate measures. The report provides some guiding principles for interventions based on the objectives being pursued through food loss and waste reductions, be they in improved economic efficiency, food security and nutrition, or environmental sustainability. -
