The Digital Village Initiative (DVI) aims to transform rural life in Europe and Central Asia by deploying digital technologies. This project focuses on three key objectives: to deliver increased agricultural productivity by introducing advanced technologies to farmers, to connect rural communities through digital platforms that enhance access to essential services, and to foster sustainable and resilient rural economies for long-term growth and prosperity. Nations such as Albania, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Türkiye, and Uzbekistan are actively participating, turning their rural areas into hubs of innovation. The initiative represents a significant step in redefining rural life across multiple sectors, including agriculture, education, and healthcare.

No results found.This FAO report presents a comprehensive global assessment of greenhouse gas emissions from livestock systems, utilizing FAO’s Global Livestock Environmental Assessment Model (GLEAM) based on the most recent available data. GLEAM also considers indirect emissions from upstream activities, such as feed and other inputs, and part of the downstream processes including post-farm transport, processing and packaging of raw products. Drawing from an extensive literature review, this publication illustrates pathways towards lower emissions through a set of interventions on both the supply and the demand sides of animal production. -

No results found.Harnessing science, technology and innovation (STI) is key to meeting the aspirations of efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable agrifood systems and leveraging emerging opportunities to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The FAO Strategic Framework 2022–2031 identifies STI as having enormous transformative potential and underlines the potential of emerging technologies. It also recognizes that STI can present substantial risks, such as reinforcing inequality and market concentration, or contributing to the degradation of natural resources. As one of four accelerators identified by the FAO Strategic Framework 2022–2031, technology is expected to “accelerate impact while minimizing trade-offs”. This report examines the technology accelerator trends across publicly available FAO knowledge reports, technical guidance and convening summaries. Leveraging AI-assisted classification of nearly 40 000 documents, this report offers a bird’s-eye perspective of six types of technology – digital technologies, biotechnologies, mechanization, irrigation technologies, renewable energy technologies and food processing technologies – as well as high-level trends for outcomes and social and demographic details about the communities using these technologies.
