No results found.The 3rd issue of the Biosafety newsletter contains information about key meetings and activities that took place during the latter part of 2018 and early 2019 in the National biosafety project (Implementation of the national biosafety framework in accordance with the Cartagena protocol on biosafety). The coverage of the 3rd issue is dedicated to inform the audience about the multi-stakeholder workshop that took place to review the draft documents on strengthening policy, institutional and regulatory framework for biosafety in Sri Lanka. The newsletter also mentions about the 2nd Technical expert group meeting, 2nd Project steering committee meeting, 1st meeting to discuss about the labs for detection of Living modified organisms and the meeting of the National coordinating committee on biosafety. Further, it informs about the survey conducted to collect baseline data on the understanding of biotechnology and biosafety among stakeholders. The newsletter includes synopses about biosafety in relation to biotechnological applications and an article about biodiversity from the National project director. This issue covers an important milestone in the project, which is partnering with an international and two national entities for project implementation. No results found.Land administration and cadastral systems are playing a crucial global role in safeguarding the security of access to land and natural resources. Information technology systems have become basic elements of these systems everywhere. Introduction of automation to land administration has improved systems’ efficiency, standardisation and accessibility, which in turn have contributed to responsible land governance. Developing country land administrations are, however, often inefficient and poorly st ructured. This results partly from the lack of adapted and flexible software tools to standardise, structure and maintain the cadastre and the land registration. Open-source software bears a promise of a way forward. This booklet, which has been jointly prepared by FAO and FIG, demonstrates through theory and country experiences that open-source software has become a credible alternative to commercial off-the-shelf software in the field of cadastre and land registration systems. -

2024The Procedural Manual of the Codex Alimentarius Commission helps national delegations and international organizations attending as observers, participate effectively in the work of the Joint FAO/WHO Food Standards Programme. It sets out the basic Rules of Procedure, procedures for the elaboration of Codex standards and related texts, and basic definitions and guidelines for the operation of Codex committees. It also gives the membership of the Codex Alimentarius Commission.This newly designed 28th edition with the first change in layout since the 1960s, amends the section on commodity standards dealing with non-retail containers; introduces new text on “Criteria and procedural guidelines for Codex committees and ad hoc intergovernmental task forces working by correspondence”, and there is a new annex concerning the "Approach for the extrapolation of maximum residue limits of veterinary drugs to one or more species to the risk analysis principles applied by the Committee on residues of veterinary drugs in foods".
