No results found.Market activities are hampered by conflict and civil insecurity, resulting in very limited access to food. Food security conditions are dramatically affected by the continuing conflict that limits the humanitarian agencies to access conflict-affected population. Agencies agree on a very high and alarming hunger situation. Massive displacement continues, as clashes intensify, particularly in the Northern and Eastern areas of the country. The IDPs population is estimated to be around 105,206. FAO has been providing support to agricultural activities; however access to land and inputs is very much constrained. -

No results found.High food prices persist, but decline was observed in August 2011, in some of the markets: maize prices in Kisangani and Bunia showed a declining trend whereas local rice and cassava flour prices increased. According to international agencies the situation of hunger is extremely alarming with very high prevalence of undernourisment. The FAO Global Early Warning Information System (GIEWS) reports severe localized food insecurity. The already dire food security conditions are aggravated by p ersistent conflict and insecurity. It was estimated that some 1.7 million people are internally displaced. International agencies continue assisting affected population together with refugees and IDPs throughout the country. -

No results found.Food prices showed a very volatile trend in the reference period, registering the highest increases in January/February 2012. Food security is severely affected by conflict in many provinces. According to WFP, some 4.4 million people have been reached with food assistance in 2011. The security situation remains volatile in the east of the country, where military operations against armed groups continue to generate internal displacement. While FAO is supporting poor farmers production with input distribution programs, the government suspended VAT on basic food products.
