    The desert locust Schistocerca gregaria (DL) is one of the most devastating pests in agriculture. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the central region area (of the Red Sea and Horn of Africa) is considered the source of many DL outbreaks. The Horn of Africa and Arab peninsula recently faced the worst DL crisis in over 25 years, and the most serious in 70 years for Kenya. The occurrence of outbreaks and upsurges represents a serious threat to the food security and livelihoods of the region. It is imperative to recognize the gravity of such situations and take necessary measures to mitigate their impact. Failure to do so could have severe consequences, including hunger, malnutrition, and economic instability. Thus, it is crucial to prioritize the prevention and control of these outbreaks to safeguard the well-being of individuals and the prosperity of the region.Established in 1967, the Commission for Controlling the Desert Locust in the Central Region (CRC) plays a key role in enhancing Member Countries’ early preparedness and response capabilities with regard to DL and to address any gaps between calm situations and emergency situations, so that emergencies can be resolved efficiently and effectively.

    The Global Response Plan presents an overview of FAO's ongoing desert locust response activities, as well as funding needs for the remainder of 2020 in order to: sustain ongoing operations and livelihoods support in the Greater Horn of Africa and Yemen, scale up operations and assistance in southwest Asia where the locust is an increasing threat, and prepare for a potential future outbreak in West Africa and the Sahel.

    This progress report details the work carried out by FAO across the Southwest Asia to combat the unprecedented threat to food security and livelihoods posed by the ongoing desert locust invasion. The report outlines the control measures taken so far as well as the longer-term reposnse planned for safeguarding the means of survival of millions of vulnerable people who could be affected by the pest, particularly with the compounding impact of COVID-19 and the restrictions this will likely incur for the Organization's humanitarian assistance.

    Les pécheries de thons constituent un domaine privilégié pour révaluation de l'apport effectif ou potentiel de la télédétection satellitaire au développement des pécheries océaniques et notamment de l'aide opérationnelle aux flottilles thonières. Ce rapport tente de faire le point sur rétat des techniques en 1987-88. 11 est structuré en trois parties. La première partie présente rapidement les espèces et les pécheries concernées zone tempérée thon blanc ou germon Thunnus alalunga dan s l'Océan Atlantique Nord-Est et l'Océan Pacifique Nord-Est, et en zone intertropicale : albacore Thunnits albacares, thon obèse Thunnus obesus et listao Katsuwonus pelamis dans rocéan Atlantique Intertropical-Est au large des e6tes d'Afrique de l'Ouest, dans l'Océan Pacique Sud-Ouest et dans l'Océan 1ndien Sud-Ouest. Les bases physiologiques de la thermoécologie et donc de la sensibilité de ces espèces 6. la température de la mer sont exposées brièvement. La seconde partie présent e un rappel sur les satellites, les capteurs passifs utilisés pour la détermination de la température de surface et la couleur de la mer, et les traitenrients informatiques du signal (corrections radiométriques) et enfin les logiciels des traitements d'images numériques générées (corrections géométriques, intégration de données exogènes, cartographie). La troisième partie est un exposé des résultats acquis et des problèmes rencontrés dans les exemples régionaux des trois océans indiq ués précédemment.
