    As a result of devasting floods in 2020, the livelihoods of farming and livestock keeping households across the Sudan were severely disrupted. In response, the Government of the United States of America through the Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance of the United States Agency for International Development contributed USD 4 million to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations for the implementation of a project entitled “Supporting the food security and livelihoods sector coordination mechanism, restoring household food production capacities, and protecting livestock assets of internally displaced persons, returnees and vulnerable host communities”. The project was carried out from 1 January 2021 to 30 June 2022. The overall objective of the project was to strengthen coordination among Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL) sector partners, restore household food production capacities, and enhance the food security of the most vulnerable populations. In addition to strengthening coordination among FSL sector partners, the project directly supported the livelihoods and production capacities of 98 700 households (493 500 people) in the most affected states by distributing agricultural and livestock production inputs; and by carrying out vaccination campaigns against peste des petits ruminants as well as sheep and goat pox.
