Synopsis (short abstract) The Government of Germany, through the Special Fund for Emergency and Rehabilitation Activities −Anticipatory Action Window, contributed USD 900 000 to FAO's project entitled "Anticipatory Actions to cope with expected drought in Madagascar’s Bekily(Androy), Betrokaand AmboasaryAtsimo(Anosy) districts". FAO provided animals, crop and vegetable seeds and cash transfers along with capacity building on climate-smart and nutrition-sensitive agriculture to 4,000 households, in order for them to cope with the effects of drought and produce food and cover their basic needs before harvests thanks to the cash provided.

The German Federal Foreign Office, through the Special Fund for Emergency and Rehabilitation Activities − Anticipatory Action window, contributed EUR 3million (USD 3 260 885) to the project, "Scaling-up anticipatory action to protect agricultural livelihoods and food security: Phase 2" which was implemented from 1 January 2024 to 31 December 2024. The project aimed to safeguard the agriculture-based livelihoods and food security of the most vulnerable populations ahead of shocks, and to reduce humanitarian needs by systematically linking risk analysis to anticipatory action in high-risk countries.
