Synopsis (short abstract) La detección temprana y el diagnóstico de la presencia de la Raza 4 tropical (R4T), combinada con la rápida destrucción de las plantas de banano infectadas y las restricciones en la finca, son las únicas formas de controlar y contener el hongo causante de la enfermedad. Procesos sobre cómo Diagnosticar R4T del campo al laboratorio, se describen algunas acciones que los agricultores/productores pueden tomar para reconocer los síntomas de R4T. Estos incluyen: siempre esté atento a R4T; notificar a las autoridades de la Organización Nacional de Protección Fitosanitaria (ONPF), para informar cualquier sospecha de signos y síntomas de R4T; esperar a las autoridades pertinentes para una inspección especializada; facilitar la recolección de muestras que pueden empaquetarse, etiquetarse y enviarse con una cadena de custodia segura a un laboratorio especializado; y garantizar las pruebas de laboratorio, que, por sí solas, pueden confirmar realmente un brote de R4T. Otros posibles diagnósticos de plantas afectadas por síntomas similares a R4T también se describen en el documento. A veces, lo que inicialmente se sospechaba que era R4T resulta ser una enfermedad diferente o un fenómeno natural. En cualquier caso, todos los casos sospechosos deben tratarse como potencialmente peligrosos.

    El propósito de la infografía ¿Qué es la Raza 4 tropical (R4T)? es informar al público en general sobre la naturaleza de la Raza 4 tropical (R4T) con algunos datos clave sobre sus orígenes y cómo se propaga. Un hecho que se enfatiza es que R4T no es dañino para los humanos y no afecta la fruta en sí. Se necesita apoyo para la gestión y recuperación de enfermedades en los países afectados, basado en la colaboración internacional y las acciones nacionales. Esta es una de las dos infografías sobre R4T y su prevención.

    Early detection and diagnosis of the presence of Tropical Race 4 (TR4), combined with rapid destruction of infected banana plants and on-farm restrictions, are the only ways to control and contain the disease-causing fungus. Process on how to diagnose TR4 – From field to lab outlines some actions farmers/growers can take to recognize the symptoms of TR4. These include: always keep an eye out for TR4; notify authorities such as the National Plant Protection Organization (NPPO) to report any suspected TR4 signs and symptoms; await relevant authorities for specialized inspection; facilitate the collection of samples that can be packaged, labelled, and sent with a secure chain of custody to a specialised laboratory; and ensure laboratory testing, which, alone, can truly confirm a TR4 outbreak. Other possible diagnoses of plants afflicted with TR4-like symptoms are also outlined in the document. Sometimes, what was initially suspected to be TR4 turns out to be a different disease or natural phenomenon. In any case all suspected cases should be treated as potentially hazardous.
