No results found.The Dongting Wetlands is China’s second-largest freshwater lake and one of the 200 key global ecozones. Its high biodiversity serves as an important ecosystem for over 120 bird species and many endangered species. It plays an important socioeconomic role in the area as nearly 16 million people live around the lake. Despite the importance of the wetlands, the services it provides are increasingly at risk. Loss of habitat arising from sector conflicts and economic interests of local farmers and fishers has resulted in a decline in wildlife populations and in some cases entire species. FAO intervened to secure the conservation of biodiversity in the area through strengthening existing management efforts and promoting long-term sustainable development. Activities such as hunting, fishing, planting and reclamation have been stopped and most policy level outcome targets for biodiversity have been reached. The mid-term evaluation makes recommendations for the second half of the project, with a particular focus on knowledge management. It recommends a systematic approach to sharing good practices and technical support with learning facilities across the various project sites. GCP/CPR/043/GFF GEF ID: 4356 -

The objective is to secure the conservation of biodiversity of global importance in dongting lake ecosystem by strengthening existing management efforts and the promotion of wetland’s long-term sustainable development. -

The project "Emergency response and support to vulnerable populations in at-risk areas of Burkina Faso" is financed by the Swedish International Development Agency. FAO implemented the project in partnership with the Government of Burkina Faso through the Ministry for Agriculture, Hydro-agricultural Development and Mechanisation. The project seeks to improve vulnerable populations’ access to food and to means of food production. This first phase of the evaluation focused on suggesting improvements to the project over the rest of its implementation period, and more particularly improvements as pertaining to relevance, efficiency and efficacy of the project. The implementation of these recommendations should allow the project and more generally FAO, the FAO Office in Burkina Faso and the Government, to close a project that has achieved its objectives -

La pêche côtière en Afrique de l’Ouest est essentielle pour fournir nourriture et emplois, appuyer les moyens d’existence des hommes et des femmes et générer des revenus. L’objectif général du projet « Offrir des avantages environnementaux, sociaux et économiques durables en Afrique de l’Ouest grâce à une bonne gouvernance, des incitations correctes et l’innovation » est de renforcer la gouvernance, la gestion et les chaînes de valeur par la mise en œuvre d’une approche écosystémique des pêches, d’outils internationaux pertinents et de partenariats innovants en matière de gouvernance en Côte d’Ivoire, au Cabo Verde et au Sénégal. Dans l'ensemble, l'évaluation à mi-parcours a donné une note « relativement satisfaisante » au projet. L’évaluation a recommandé des améliorations particulièrement concernant : la stratégie de recrutement et d’organisation du personnel, le co-financement, le cadre de résultats, et le suivi des activités. La version en langue originale du rapport (en français) prévaut sur la traduction (en anglais). -

No results found.There are numerous risks to the sustainability and stability of Indonesia’s farming system, food production system, supply chains, and ecosystems. The evaluation aims to answer two essential questions: whether FAO is doing what is needed and whether it is making a difference.This evaluation recommends that FAO support the green and blue (land and sea) preparedness and adaptation plans, as well as early warning systems. The evaluation further recommends that FAO ramp up its support for a national decision support system that adopts a food systems approach to provide policymakers with the best analytical evidence and data available to guide new public policies and regulations.Many of the conclusions and recommendations call for policy and regulatory reform. The evaluation recommends that FAO work with Indonesia to establish innovative data management systems, new analysis methods, and analytical tools on agriculture including fisheries and forestry.
