This document provides examples of emerging approaches to FREL/FRL development adopted in different contexts, including for demonstration activities by countries seeking to take actions to reduce GHG emissions or enhance forest carbon stocks in the forest sector. Analysis is provided on technical features in the early development of FREL/FRLs. The publication contains a list of country examples that is however not complete; not every country working on their FREL/FRL methodology is included in the analysis, which aims to be illustrative of the diversity of approaches taken rather than comprehensive. To date, one country has submitted a FREL under the UNFCCC which is why most examples are related to FREL/FRLs prepared for demonstr ation activities. The document will be regularly updated with additional information, including UNFCCC submissions of FREL/FRLs as they become available. -

No results found.This report provides an overview of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) modalities for REDD+ reporting and additional technical Measurement, Reporting and Verification requirements from different standards for accessing jurisdictional REDD+ results-based payments, focusing on REDD+ reference levels and results reported, illustrating the choices countries have made when constructing their reference levels. Beyond the Green Climate Fund results-based payments pilot programme, jurisdictional REDD+ results-based payment opportunities discussed are the Carbon Fund, the Architecture for REDD+ Transactions, and Verra's Jurisdicitonal and Nested REDD standard. This publication discusses differences between REDD+ results reported to the UNFCCC and REDD+ accounting towards receiving results-based payments, especially differences in volume: 11.5 billion tCO2eq emission reductions are reported to the UNFCCC, while 146 million tCO2eq emission reductions are reported to the Carbon Fund and the Architecture for REDD+ Transactions combined. Though ER reporting to the voluntary carbon market has only recently started and may still increase, its volume is expected to be limited. Potential limiting factors are discussed.The world’s collective progress towards achieving the Paris Agreement and its long-term goals is assessed through the global stocktake. The last part of this publication shows how some countries are using REDD+ reporting to improve their NDCs, BURs and Biennial Transparency Reports. The mitigation potential of REDD+ is discussed in the context of the global stocktake exercise.

No results found.The annual Joint Meeting of the FAO Panel of Experts on Pesticide Residues in Food and the Environment and the WHO Core Assessment Group on Pesticide Residues was held in Rome, Italy, from 21 to 30 September 2010. The FAO Panel of Experts had met in Preparatory Sessions from 16 to 20 September. The Meeting was held in pursuance of recommendations made by previous meetings and accepted by the governing bodies of FAO and WHO that studies should be undertaken jointly by experts to evaluat e possible hazards to humans arising from the occurrence of pesticide residues in foods. During the meeting the FAO Panel of Experts was responsible for reviewing pesticide use patterns (use of good agricultural practices), data on the chemistry and composition of the pesticides and methods of analysis for pesticide residues and for estimating the maximum residue levels that might occur as a result of the use of the pesticides according to good agricultural practices. The WHO Core Asse ssment Group was responsible for reviewing toxicological and related data and for estimating, where possible and appropriate, acceptable daily intakes (ADIs) and acute reference doses (ARfDs) of the pesticides for humans. This report contains information on ADIs, ARfDs, maximum residue levels, and general principles for the evaluation of pesticides. The recommendations of the Joint Meeting, including further research and information, are proposed for use by Member governments of the respective agencies and other interested parties. -

No results found.The Harmonized World Soil Database version 2.0 (HWSD v2.0) is a unique global soil inventory providing information on the morphological, chemical and physical properties of soils at approximately 1 km resolution. Its main objective is to be useful for modelers and to serve as a basis for prospective studies on agroecological zoning, food security and the impacts of climate change. HWSD v2.0 also serves an educational function, illustrating the geographical distribution of soils as well as their properties globally. HWSD v2.0 is easily accessible and user-friendly. -

Une approche écosystémique de l’aquaculture. 2011Les dimensions sociales et biophysiques des écosystèmes sont inextricablement liées de telle manière qu’un changement dans une seule dimension est très susceptible de générer un changement dans une autre. Bien que le changement est une conséquence naturelle des interactions complexes, il doit être surveillé et même géré si le taux et la direction du changement risquent de compromettre la résilience du système. “Une approche écosystémique de l’aquaculture (AEA) est une stratégie pou r l’intégration de l’activité dans l’écosystème élargi de telle sorte qu’elle favorise le développement durable, l’équité et la résilience de l’interconnexion des systèmes socio-écologiques.” Etant une stratégie, l’approche écosystémique de l’aquaculture (AEA) n’est pas ce qu’on a fait, mais plutôt comment on l’a fait. La participation des parties intéressées est à la base de la stratégie. L’AEA exige un cadre politique approprié dans lequel la stratégie se développe en plusieurs é tapes: (i) la portée et la définition des limites des écosystèmes et l’identification de la partie intéressée; (ii) l’identification des problèmes principaux; (iii) la hiérarchisation des problèmes; (iv) la définition des objectifs opérationnels; (v) l’élaboration d’un plan de mise en oeuvre; (vi) le processus de mise en oeuvre correspondant qui comprend le renforcement, le suivi et l’évaluation, et (vii) un critique des politiques à long terme. Toutes ces étapes sont informées par les meilleures connaissances disponibles. La mise en oeuvre de l’AEA exigera le renforcement des institutions et des systèmes de gestion associés de sorte qu’une approche intégrée du développement de l’aquaculture peut être mise en oeuvre et compte entièrement des besoins et des impacts d’autres secteurs. La clé sera de développer des institutions capables d’intégration, notamment en fonction des objectifs et des normes convenus. L’adoption généralisée d’une AEA exigera un couplag e plus étroit de la science, la politique et la gestion. Elle exige aussi que les gouvernements incluent l’AEA dans leurs politiques de développement de l’aquaculture, stratégies et plans de développement.
